Rotman MBA or USD MBA

Hello Friends and Experts,

After all the filtering I have narrowed down to Rotman School of Mangement and University Of San Diego - School of Business Administration. I got the admit from both these schools. Now I need to take a stand and choose one of these schools. I know Rotman is far ahead in ranking and reputation, but still to make sure that I am not missing any other factors, Can you people please suggest me the better option and the reason.

Would be waiting for the reply folks.

Congrats on the admits. In many ways they're apples and oranges.

Rotman is one of Canada's preeminent b-schools. And while quite a few grads will end up in the US, a lot of folks end up staying in Canada post-MBA (mostly working in Southern Ontario, with a smattering of folks heading to Alberta, BC or Quebec). So if you're looking to work in Canada post-MBA, it's pretty much a no brainer.

San Diego is a local school -- if you're looking to work in Southern California, then it's going to be a far better school for you than Rotman, even though Rotman is ranked higher overall. The recruiters going to San Diego will be mostly local firms in the Southern California area.

Hey MBAApply thanks for the insight well the facts are as below:

Actually I am not looking on the front of staying in canada post MBA, I would love to come to USA.

The only things that incline me to Rotman is the cirriculum based on integrative Thinking and more global reputation and Ranking of Rotman

However, I have an IT background from India and considering the silicon city in proximity to San Diego in California I feel that I will get what I want more easily at USD than at Rotman, but I may not be right.

Can you please suggest me after knowing these facts.

The hassles of US immigration is a huge factor.

Think about it. If you go to Rotman, you're an Indian national studying in Canada. And then having to cross the border to interview for jobs in another country (the US). On top of that, should an employer be interested, they would then have to sponsor you, an Indian student studying in Canada, for a US work and immigration visa. Anything is possible of course and I'm sure there were folks who managed to swing it, but it's hard enough as it is for foreign students in the US to get sponsored post-MBA for non-engineering jobs.

If you really want to work in the US, go to San Diego. You'll be there on a US student visa, looking for jobs in the US will be a lot easier, and proximity to industries (tech, biotech/life sciences) in Southern and Northern California where they are most willing to sponsor internationals for work visas will give you a far better shot than having to fly halfway across the continent (and from a different country) from Toronto.
