A company has two sales divisions: foreign and domestic. If the average sales person from the former sells as much as the average sales person from the latter, what fraction of the total sales from the two divisions were sold by the division dedicated to foreign sales if the other division has 25% more sales people?


A) 1/2
B) 2/5
C) 3/8
D) 4/5
E) 5/8

Say, number of sales people in foreign sales = 100
Hence, number of sales people in domestic sales = (100 + 25% of 100) = (100 + 25) = 125

As sales person from both sells the same, the required ratio = (Number of sales person in foreign)/(Number of total sales person) = 100/(100 + 125) = 100/225 = 4/9

It was a typo my mistake.


A company has two sales divisions: foreign and domestic. If the average sales person from the former sells 3/4 as much as the average sales person from the latter, what fraction of the total sales from the two divisions were sold by the division dedicated to foreign sales if the other division has 25% more sales people?


A) 1/2
B) 2/5
C) 3/8
D) 4/5
E) 5/8

Consider there are 200 sales persons in foreign div and also assume that number of product that domestic people can sell is 1. So,
Number of product sold by whole foreign division = 200 X 3/4 = 150
Number of product sold by whole domestic division = ( 200 + 50 ) X 1 = 250 [ 25 % of 200 is 50]

Total sales = 250 + 150 = 400
sales by foreign div. = 150

Hence answer is 150/400= 3/8

So OA is C

its like my english is so terrible that i donnt understand anything at all about what this math is talking and asking about
the former and latter is what?
even the question in this math, i dont understand, i thougght F=25%+%D

My approach:

Let the no. of people in Foreign division be P.
=> The no. of people in domestic division will be P+3/4P = (5/4)P

Let the sales per person in Domestic be x.
=> sales per person in foreign will be (3/4)x.

Sales from a division = sales per sales person * No. of persons.

Sales from foreign division = (3/4)Px
Similarly, sales from domestic division = (5/4)Px

fraction of the total sales from the two divisions were sold by the division dedicated to foreign sales = total sale by foreign division/(total sale of both the divisions)

This gives, 3/8.

Thus, C.
