Rate and Work .Data Sufficiency

by majorsheetal » Tue Sep 28, 2010 1:53 am
A courier delivered a package from place X to place Y . At what average speed did he travel during the return trip?

1. The distance between X and Y was 25 miles .

2. The couriers round trip travel time was 50 minutes.

My answer to it is C. but it is wrong ans is E.

I thought the avg speed = total distance / total time.
= 50/50

hence the speed would be 1 mile per hr.please how is it wrong???

1st question : Whats the source of this problem?

Now secondly, I will be frank to you. If I had seen this problem, I would have also simply marked C and would have happily lived ever after. But If you look into the question with a magnifying glass. You will find the question is not about average speed of the journey. ( Which would have been total distance of the journey / total time taken ). The question is average speed of his return journey. Which in this case will be
25 / time taken for return journey.

Again as I said earlier My explaination is totally based on the correct answer and this is the reason we emphasize on not sharing the OA and giving every one a fair chance to learn and solve the problem

Thanks!

Don't use IMS prep material..It will "damage" ur prep!! Use recognised/authenticated prep material
