Coordinate Geometry

Is the slope of line p greater than the slope of line q?

1. The x intercept of line p is greater than that of q
2. The y intercept of line p is less than that of q

I would appreciate a detailed explanation on how to solve this one.......

let the x and y intercept of P be x1 and y1
and q be x2 and y2
slope of p=-y1/x1 alope of q= -y2/x2

from 1 we get x1>x2..this is not sufficient to comment on the ratio y1/x1 and y2/x2
from 2 we get y1<y2..this is not sufficient to comment on the ratio y1/x1 and y2/x2

combining both y1/x1<y2/x2 or -y1/x1<-y2/x2 or slope of p>slope of q

If you point out which section you want me to explain it will be good. Else here is an alternate explanation

From 1 x intercept of line p is greater than that of q ..this is possible when slope of p is equal to q or greater or less than that of q (see pic1)

same logic for condition 2

only when we combine we can say that slope of p>slope of q (pic2)

Gr8 explanation..Coordinate geometry becomes much easier when you solve a problem using diagrammatic approach..I used the algebraic approach, which consumed a little more time...Anyway..thanks a lot...From here on I will try to solve coordinate geometry problem using diagrams....

Btw..If anyone requires the algebraic approach, I would be glad to help ;)
