by waggrave » Tue Aug 30, 2011 6:04 am
Is the number of members of Club X greater than the number of members of Club Y ?
(1) Of the members of Club X, 20 percent are also members of Club Y.
(2) Of the members of Club Y, 30 percent are also members of Club X.

How would you deal with this DS ?
Thanks

Let no. of members in club X = x and no. of members in club Y = y. Then we have find if x > y?

(1) No. of members in club X and Y = 20% of x = 0.2x; NOT sufficient.
(2) No. of members in club X and Y = 30% of y = 0.3y; NOT sufficient.

Combining (1) and (2), 0.2x = 0.3y or x/y = 3/2 or x > y

The correct answer is C.
