statement 1 doesn't give us any information on the number of female employees in the sales team

If the total number of employees is x, then all we know is x = 7 + F, where F is the number of female emplyees in the sales team. It doesn't tell us that how many femals are in the non-sales team, so we have 2 unknowns, not enough to find x

statement 2 is quite straight fwd, it says 0.25x = 0.75x + 16, enough to find x.

Hi,

The x be the total number of people in the company.

25% are male employees
50% employees are from the sales team.

so employees who are both male and from the sales team = 25% * 50% *x =7

Pls help me understand what went wrong in this logic?

Thanks
karthik

Your logic assumes that all 25% of the males work in sales.
