Based on an account from a survivor who talks about her own history of abuse in
childhood and in adulthood, the author weaves a story about the experience of
multiple selves, and its impact on other family members.

A. Based on an account from a survivor who talks on her own history of abuse in
childhood and in adulthood
B. Basing it on an account from a survivor who talks about her own history of abuse
in childhood and in adulthood
C. With an account from a survivor who talks about her own history of abuse both in
childhood and in adulthood
D. By the account from a survivor who talks about her own history of abuse in
childhood and in adulthood
E. Using the account of a survivor who talks about her own history of abuse in both
childhood and adulthood

No hint.. can some one please suggest me, thanks in advance.

Its E. E is not only stating the correct meaning (Using....) but also it is concise (in both x and y). There is a great video tutorial by Ron Purewal available in the below link...

IMO the answer is E, because it does not only provide a proper form of a modifying phrase but it also corrects an error in choice A- which appears, at least for me, to be a contender- by using a proper idiomatic expression: 'talks about' rather than 'talks on'.

Thanks. but i was confused that which one is correct :

1. in Both X and Y
2. both in X and Y

3. and if we are using and then isn't both is redundent..?

As stated above, you could use either 'in both X and Y' or 'Both in X and in Y'. In the former case, as 'in' is before 'both', it serves for X as well as for Y. In the latter case, however, 'in' is after 'both' and stands only for 'X'; as such, to ensure parallel expression, you need another 'in' for Y too.
