Profile Evaluation Request

Profile:

Age: 26/Female

GPA: 3.7 from a top 50 university in the Northeast. Studied business and have a degree in Finance and Marketing

GMAT: 660 (Q47, V34), 5.5 AWA, and 7 on the IR. I got a 660 both times I've taken the GMAT. I plan on taking it a third time in April and hopefully breaking the 700 mark. If I don't hit 700 on my third attempt, I plan on taking it a fourth time, since I still have some time before I actually apply to schools. (Would it reflect poorly on my application if the admissions committee sees so many attempts at the GMAT?)

Work Experience: 3.5 years working for a couple of major retailers in the U.S. My work experience will be closer to 4.5 years by the time I actually apply to b-school

Extracurriculars: I am a member of the Junior League and I volunteer with a couple of other women's organizations in my local area.

Goal: To go into management consulting.

Top Choices for Schools:
University of Chicago
Northwestern
MIT
Dartmouth
University of Michigan
Carnegie Mellon
Emory

I think I need help narrowing down my school selections and creating a list of reach and safety schools.

Staring off sounds pretty good. But really I'm missing a lot of detail here.

what did you DO for these retailers? did you manage any people? what were your great achievements?? Do you have any extras? (like ECs or volunteer work, or entrepreneurship??)

Cracking a 700 on the GMAT will of course be mega useful, but all these other things are important too.

My work with these retailers was very analytical--making decisions that directly impact sales and margin. I didn't manage any people, but my work does involve a lot of teamwork and collaboration, which I'm sure I can expand upon in my essays.

My volunteer experience/extracurriculars center around a few women's organizations. I'm thinking of taking on a leadership position in one of the organizations, but am not 100% sure yet due to time commitments.

Thanks for taking the time to give your imput! Much appreciated!

Okay let's assume you can break a 710 on the GMAT, I think in such a case your school list wold be reasonable. If you aren't able to score higher, then you'll have to see where and how you would be willing to compromise in terms of schools, but I feel that for now, your school list is fair if you were to get the score you want.

I'd say for the moment, don't even think about this too much. Concentrate all your energies on the GMAT and getting that score as soon as you can, and everything else, you can figure out later. But don't wait tooooo long. If you can get the GMAT done by beginning of June, that would be best.
