(D) In the United States, three out of every four automobile owners owns bicycles.
(E) Out of every four owners of automobiles in the United States bicycles are also owned by three.

Pls. answer with explanation.
A - correct option

B - 'owns' does not go with automobile owners (i.e. plural). For a plural subject, corresponding the verb (own) should be singular

C - It is in passive voice, which is not prefered in GMAT. Also, the sentence suggests that each owner owns more than one bicycle ("bicycles") - the sentence should mean that the owners own one bicycle each.

D - same error as in option B above

E - Passive construction; same error as in C; also very wordy & awkward.
