In an endurance race, a car drove the whole race at a constant of 3 miles per minute to cover the total race distance D. Was the value of D greater than 500 miles?

1) The time is taken by the car to cover D was more than 2 hours.
2) The time is taken by the car to cover D was less than 2.75 hours.

Speed = 3 miles per minute
Distance = D
Was the value of D greater than 500 miles?
Statement 1: Time taken by the car to cover D was more than 2 hours.
If time = 3 hours = 180 minutes
Then Distamce = 3 * 180 = 540 miles

If time = 2.5 hours = 150 minutes
Then Distance = 3 * 150 = 450 miles
The results obtained are not sufficient enough to determine if D is completely greater or less than 500 miles, hence, statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2: The time is taken by the car to cover D was less than 2.75 hours.
If time = 2.75 hours = 165 minutes
Then Distance = 3 * 165 = 495 miles

If time = 2 hours = 120 minutes
Then Distance = 3 * 120 = 360 miles

Distance D is definitely less than 500 miles. Therefore, statement 2 alone is SUFFICIENT.

Hence, option B is the correct answer.
