B 15
C 16
D 17
E 18
We can PLUG IN THE ANSWERS, which represent the distance traveled at 4 kph.
Since all of the values in the problem are INTEGERS, the correct answer is almost certain to be a multiple of 4.
Of the 5 options, only
C is a multiple of 4.
When the correct answer is plugged in, the total time = 9 hours.
C: 16 kilometers traveled at 4 kph, implying that the distance traveled at 9 kph = 61-16 = 45 kilometers
Time to travel 16 kilometers at 4 kph = d/r = 16/4 = 4 hours.
Time to travel 45 kilometers at 9 kph = d/r = 45/9 = 5 hours.
Total time = 4+5 = 9 hours.
Success!
The correct answer is
C.
