Statement 1=> When Mark purchased product X in January 1997, the warranty did not expire until March 1997.
The least possible warranty period from January 31st to the first of March is 29 days, and the greatest possible warranty period is 89 days, which is from the 1st of January to 31st of March. Since the warranty period can be any number of days between 29 to 89 days, Statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2=> When Santos purchased product X in May 1997, the warranty expired in May 1997. Here, the warranty period can vary from one day, which is from the 1st of May to the 2nd of May or to 30 days from the 1st of May to 31st of May. Hence, statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT.

By combining the two statements, we have a range of 29 to 89 days and another range of 1 to 30 days.
These two ranges will overlap or intersect in such a way that the number of days after purchase can either be 29 or 30 days. This is not enough to obtain definite answers. Hence, both statements together are INSUFFICIENT.

Answer = option E
