Statement 1
The rectangular solid is a cube
This means that the length, width, and height are of equal sizes since Length = 7, width = 7 and height = 7.
Total surface area = no of sides *area of individual surface
no of sides of cube = 6
Area of individual surface = width * height= 7*7 = 49
Total surface area = 6 * 49 = 294;
The target question can be answered hence,
Statement i is SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2
One of the faces of the solid has an area of 49
We don't know if the rectangular solid is a cube or a cuboid
A cube will have equal dimensional values with the same value as the individual surface area.
A cuboid will have different dimensional values with different values of the individual surface area due to this uncertainty, the target question cannot be answered, hence
Statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT.

Since statement 1 alone is SUFFICIENT
