Each statement alone is insufficient for with taking each statement alone, there can be many possible values of \((a−c)^2.\)

(1) and (2) together

\((a−c)^2\) can be written as \((a+c)^2-2ac\)

Or, \((a−c)^2=(a+c)^2-2ac=26-2*1=24.\) Sufficient.

Correct answer: C

Hope this helps!
