Suspicious Score

by Kasr2 » Sat Sep 26, 2009 4:39 pm
I'm a newbie and took the manhattan prac test without any serious studying. My score was Q 20, V 33. I completely skipped the writing part and received a score of 430. I had a friend who had similar scores when he took the test in Gmat Prep and he received a 560. So what could be reason for such a difference?

Is the Manhattan cat exam score reliable? or are they like kaplan? (give you a low score or really hard test to make you buy their study guides or courses)

Q 20, V33 is still pathetic but feedback is appreciated as my test is in 50 days.

thanks

each testing software has its own scoring algorithm. skipping the AWA essay will not have any bearing on your score. the MGMAT score is generally reliable. i scored a bit lower on my practice MGMAT tests than on my GMAT Preptests.. ranging from 10-60 points lower. however, this shouldnt mean that you should discredit the mgmat. rather, you should use it as a tool to analyze what specific areas you are weak in. afterward, you should seek to improve on these areas

I agree that each software has a specific algorithm, but I do not agree that skipping the AWA has no impact on your score. I does, trust me! It's an entirely different thing to start quant "fresh as a daisy" instead of after one hour of essay writing. It's about stamina and how you can handle the workload.

i meant that there is no direct penalty for skipping the writing section, which is what the OP seemed to imply was happening with his score. indirectly, i do agree that skipping it might artificially inflate your score since you'll be fresh, although that didn't seem to apply here.
