HELP--- GMAT PREP analysis

Hi,

I just tried a GMAT PREP test today and below is my results.
Could some one please help me understand why with so corrects, I scored so low ?

correct wrong total %
SC 12 5 17 70.58823529
CR 7 4 11 63.63636364
RC 7 6 13 53.84615385

I scored 570 .
I have been scoring 640+ in MGMAT practice test.

It appears you have only given us the verbal. You have missed 15 questions total. This is not inconsistent with a score of 570 depending on what you did on the quant.

Do you have your scaled scores from the score screen?

What is your quants and verbals scaled score?

The scaled scores are the separate scores for verbal and quantitative. The scaled scores are your scores for those sections as you cannot necessarily rely on the number of questions right and wrong. The fact that the questions adapt mean that one person getting 10 questions wrong can get a very different score from another person who also gets 10 wrong.

I got Q = 42 V=27 = 570.
There were 15 wrong in Verbal and 13 in Quant.

Last MGMAT exam I gave , I got Q 45 V 33=640.

The question I am most concerned about is why is there such a huge difference in MGMAT and GMATPREP exams.
Also is there any advice for me on improving my score ?

I am about to give my exam in 10 days from now and I got this score which threw me off totally from my target.

Appreciate your advice.

GMATPrep is the most accurate of all practice CATs, afterall, it does use actual GMAT questions that were tested in the past.

MGMAT and other third party CATs might be biased toward their own teaching focus. It doesn't make sense to test you on subjects that their own books never covered, thus they might be a bit off in comparison to GMATPrep.

uwhusky is correct in what he says (as usual) - But I do want to give you a little more encouragement. People often find the MGMAT tests to be harder and therefore they get a higher score on that test with the same number wrong. Perhaps your GMATPrep test administration was not ideal - maybe you made some "Silly mistakes" maybe you got a little unlucky.

Here is what you might want to do...

1) Analyze your mistakes from the GMATPrep you just did. Categorize mistakes that you made into 1) mistakes in your execution and 2) mistakes in your knowledge. You will want to address both before you take another GMATPrep exam, but you will really want to make sure that you don't simply repeat the mistakes in execution again. So what did you do? On quant did you not answer the correct question? Did you make a calculation error? On the verbal did you identify the wrong conclusion? Did you forget to go back to the passage on the reading comp?

2) Once you have a strategy for avoiding these silly mistakes - go ahead and take the GMATPrep test (that you just took) a second time. When you take it a second time you may seem some repeated questions. Go ahead and work those through as if you had not seem them before. You do not want to answer a question in 30 seconds if it takes 3 minutes!

3) If you have managed to avoid the "silly errors" not only will your score improve but you will get more difficult questions and be in a position to see which areas of knowledge you need to work on.

Don't be too disheartened - give this a try and see what results...

Thanks David for your advice .

I have been studying over the weekend to incorporate the suggestions you gave .I gave one more exam today.
Below is the stats from that exam GMATPREP2.
I scored 44Q 28V -600

NEW 28
sc cr rc
correct 10 6 9
wrong 8 4 4
% 55 60 69

This is different from my last time try
42Q 27V- 570

OLD 27
sc cr rc
correct 12 7 7
wrong 5 4 6
% 70 63 53

between these exams I prepared for only RC and CR.
I have my exam in another 7 days and I wanted to score above 700 but my recent tries at
GMATPREP have NOT given me good indications.

What do you suggest shld I reschedule the exam for a later date or go ahead and give the exam in 7 days? Also if so, please give me some suggestion on what all materail I should use?

I will appreciate suggestions from anyone who can help at this time

You may not have a choice to postpone - are you still more than 7 days away from the exam? If so you can postpone for a $50 fee.

If you feel like more time will help you might want to consider it so that you can get closer to your goal score on your practice tests.
