Can you please evaluate my profile

Gmat 690 (V 83, Q 77, 4.0)
Experience - 4.5 years in GE (R & D), masters from IIT, Joined as Engineer, currently a project lead - lots of global awards, top ratings.
Sounds acads (Topper in IIT, BTech).
Extracurricular - Started a trust to help poor students, actively involved in playing and organizing sports events.

Dinged by ISB and Insead. Awaiting in HEC, IE.

Hi Stacey

My Long term goal is to start a Technology based company providing tech based solutions to customers.

I have been working on R&D through out my professional life. I have moved from Engineer to Project lead role. Therefore i feel that a Global MBA at this point, Specializing in Strategy/operations will give me the exposure i need to fulfill my goal.

After MBA, my short term goal will be to lead a group in a Technology focused company (like GE) and learn things like - understanding the market, driving the technology that will win the market in present and in future... etc. Such experience will be a good foundation for me to start a own company.

These are my short term and long term plans in short.

Hi,

Thanks for the additional information. Your short and long term goals seem sound and provided you were able to connect the dots between what you've been doing, why you need the MBA as well as your post MBA your goals, you'll be in good shape. Overall you're success will have a lot to do with standing out in the applicant pool. My hope is that you were able to discuss some of your extracurricular activities in your essays and strike a balance between work related and other topics. As I've mentioned in my posts to other candidates - standing out in the applicant pool and fitting in with what each school is looking for (doing your research on schools) is critical to success.

Hi Stacey,

Thanks a lot for the comments.

I did make sure that i connected my present work with my goals while writing the essays. How ever, after being dinged by ISB and Insead, i am starting to think if

1) My Gmat score is good enough and
2) May be iam not able to differentiate my self from Indian IT pool.

Do you provide some kind of analysis on my rejected application ..?

Hi,

Yes, I would agree, your GMAT score is lower than the average for other applicants with similar backgrounds and profiles. A score of 700+ would help put you in line with the others in your pool as well as put you a bit more in line with the average at the schools on your list.

As far as distinguishing yourself, that is a bit difficult for me to assess on this forum. I'd need to read your application and essays to accurately assess this.
