To find the remainder

by gmattesttaker2 » Mon Dec 23, 2013 11:40 pm
Hello,

Can you please assist with this:

When m is divided by d, the result is q and the remainder is r. If m = dq + r, what is the
remainder when -100 is divided by 30?

(A) 10
(B) 5
(C) 0
(D) -5
(E) -10

OA: E

I was thinking that it was A

Thanks a lot,
Sri

m = dq + r

To find: r

m = -100
d = 30

-100 = 30(-3) + r

r = -100 + 90 = -10
