A. 36
B. 37.5
C. 40
D. 80
E. 90
Since 5 gallons are used every 2 hours, 2 hours is the equivalent of 5 gallons.
Since there are 60 minutes in an hour, 60 minutes is the equivalent of 1 hour.
Since the rate is 1 mile per minute, 1 mile is the equivalent of 1 minute.
Use the ratios above to convert the amount of gas used -- 15/4 gallons -- to miles.
(15/4
gallons) * (2
hours/5
gallons) * (60
minutes)/(1
hour) * (1 mile)/(1
minute).
In the expression above, all of the colored values CANCEL OUT, leaving the calculation in terms of MILES.
Calculating the value of the expression above, we get:
(15/4) * (2/5) * (60/1) * (1/1) = 90 miles.
The correct answer is
E.
