If Albert's monthly earnigs rise by 26%, he would earn $693. If, instead, his earnings rise by only 20%, how much (in $) would he earn this month?

(A) 643
(B) 652
(C) 660
(D) 690
(E) 693

The OA is C.

I'm really confused with this PS question. Please, can any expert assist me with it? Thanks in advanced.

Let x = the pre-raise earnings. We can create the equation:

1.26x = 693

x = 693/1.26 = 550

So after a 20% raise, he earns 550 * 1.2 = 660 dollars.

Answer: C
