(A) resulting from the destruction of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria,
(B) the destroying of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria resulted and
(C) because of the result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world,
(D) as a result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world,
(E) Alexandria's largest library of the ancient world was destroyed, and the result was

In C/D -doesn't 'the largest of the ancient world' modifies Alexandria ??
With regard to the question above: When the appositive follows a noun phrase (the library at Alexandria) the appositive must modify the head noun of the noun phrase (library) so there is no modification error.
guys,

correct me if I am wrong..

here in D
library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world,

at is preposition so ignore that part.. LIBRARY refers to LARGEST OF THE ANCIENT WORLD

You are correct.

In the correct answer, removing the middleman "as a result of the destruction bla bla bla" we get

In AD. 391 , later generations lost all but etc

isnt it non sensical..later generation lost it in 391 A.D ?

(A) resulting from the destruction of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria,
resulting is modifying generations, seems as if generations are a result of destruction.

(B) the destroying of the largest library of the ancient world at Alexandria resulted and
the destroying result? not making any sense

(C) because of the result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world,
because / result of are redundant.
both represent cause and effect relationship

(D) as a result of the destruction of the library at Alexandria, the largest of the ancient world,

(E) Alexandria's largest library of the ancient world was destroyed, and the result was
Alexandria's - ambiguous , at Alexander is better
and "the result was" (that) "later generations lost" - run on sentence, that or some connector will come to link two clauses.
