GMAT PREP Confusion

by snehabala88 » Thu Sep 15, 2011 3:32 am
Hi,
I took my GMAT prep and scored 590. There were about 9 questions wrong in Quant and 15 in verbal. I have been taking Manhattan tests and was consistent with 680.
Could some one help me with this estimate. Its freaking me out and i have my offical paper on the Monday, 19th Sept 2011.

Thanks,
Freaked out GMAT taker

Did you have too many continuous wrong answers?
Also, did you complete the test?
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

This is one of the risks of taking a prep test too close to the actual exam date. The dip might have been due to many reasons. Too many silly mistakes caused by stress, mood, fatigue or quite simply even just a bad day where you went left more often than right. :)

So don't worry. As of now, we're already at the point of no return as far as rescheduling goes. So if you've been scoring 680ish consistently, then you'll be fine on test day.
Use the lower spike GMAT Prep to get some takeaways and formulate your strategy for Monday. Beyond that, it's best you forget about that particular mock test! (All this is just my opinion btw!)

This is something I'm telling myself these days (my exam is on Tuesday :p)..."GMAT questions have a certain elegance to them; try to enjoy it and just take each question one at a time!"
Hope you have a great exam...

Cheers!

Hi,
Well continuous yes..And i did complete the test.
Can some one tell me how many continuous Q on an average could someone afford to get wrong. Specially in verbal. to maintain a decent score close to 700

Nothing cut and dried, I'm afraid...
Besides, we have no control over the answers we get wrong on test day...More so in verbal for non native speakers like you and I. If we knew which questions we were doing wrong, we wouldn't making those mistakes now, would we?

The best strategy for avoiding continuous mistakes is to maintain good pacing so that you can avoid rushing through easy questions and end up getting them wrong, just to make up for lost time.

Again, as you know, it's tough to speak of Verbal alone...
If you get a 47-48 in quant, then you'll need a 38-39 in Verbal to touch 700.
That would be 10-11 mistakes overall (preferably not continuous!).
