very disappointed with a 460 :(

Though I am not an active member of BTG but your forum helped me a lot. End of august i appeared for my GMAT and was shocked to see my low score. before the exam I went a bit blank and had a fear for the verbal section. I am planning to retake GMAT in early November.

I even scored better in kaplan tests than the actual GMAT. This low score has shattered me completely and I don't know how to progress for a retake. I think I should start off with the Manhattan 8 guide GMAT guide. Also, I know i need to work on verbal the most along with DS in Quant.

I scored a 5.5 in AWA so for now that is not my concern. i guess the fear of practise tests also ruined my actual gmat score.

Please help me experts as I am way too confused as to how to start my prep again.

Hey Thanks akhilsuhag,

Well, I started with my prep in May and appeared in August. I took time to understand the kind of questions and familiarize with them. I was doing well when practicing but my mistake was i guess i did not maintain an error log.

I used OG 10,11,12 + Verbal + Quant Review books. I noticed that i used to panic during Mock tests and lost out on the patience. I just couldn't motivate myself. :-( I have decided to retake the GMAT and test date is 7th November. I have realized that i need to progress with a better technique and ensure how to achieve maximum accuracy. I have no idea how to do that.. :-( Main concern is Verbal and Data Sufficiency. In DS, I come to a hasty conclusion without covering all the possibilities that means do i need to revise my concepts..? Major worry is Number properties and permutations & combinations and Probability. I fear them since college.. :-o

I am now planning to get going with the Manhattan series guide and stick to them only. More materials will only tend to confuse me i guess. Please guide me regarding the approach to which i should handle each question i come across.

Also, during my previous prep, i couldn't give much tests due to anxiety. I have time with me now so i don't want to waste it. i'm super confused and need some way out..!!! Please Help..

My target score would be around 680-690, I know i can do it... but how????????????? :-(

Hi Nia, I've had a similar experience. I took the GMAT in February of this year and scored a 550. I took a few months off, then decided to get serious. I bought all 8 Manhattan books and methodically progressed through from June to August. In August I took a practice test and scored a 580. Two months of hard work (3+ hours per day) and only a 30 point improvement?! After reading the forums I found this is quite common. I sucked it up and signed up for Veritas Prep's online course. The course isn't over yet and my test is in 3 or 4 weeks, and I scored a 660 on my last exam. I still have a lot of work to do, but my verbal increased from a 31 to a 41. My math is what needs work now.

My advice is to take a class if you're struggling with self study. Some people make self study seem like a breeze, but it was a bit harder for me.

MGMAT Number Properties book is a must. I really liked it, so go thru it. DS is a tricky beast and you need to work on it. Even I used to spend less time on it and get things wrong. But try making equations of the information given and then try solving the equations.
Here the n equations and n variables plays its part. So be sure the equations are not identical or they are not giving multiple values.

Try egmat.com for verbal, they have very affordable CR and SC lessons. RC is just practise. Just a long form of CR so it should work. I am sorry for replying late, got caught up with work.
Take Care and all the best!

You also seem to have a problem with test anxiety. I posted the same problem of practise test anxiety. Here are some expert opinions on it:
