US Schools for applicants my age

by nikhilsrl » Mon May 02, 2011 9:21 am
Hello,

I am a 32 year old applicant with 10+ years exp in IT. I am aware that Eurpean schools do look at people like me favorably. Are there any US schools that are suitable for someone like me?

Replying since no reply here.

Hi Nikhil,

I dont think your age is a hindrance. Infact with your GMAT score and experience should combine well to give you a better chance than the traditional applicant (ones like me) from India. Last year I attended an Infosession by Wharton here in Bangalore. They made it clear their class age range is over 20 with people aged in their high 40s also attending. So I dont see why your age should be a problem. I am sure if you represent your profile well, it should be favorable to you.

Thanks!
Vineesh,

Hi,

I posted a similar question several months back.
During free consulting sessions, several firms told me my age could be an isue for top US programs.

However, I was admitted to Kellogg and Harvard, and was placed on the waitlist at MIT-Sloan.
I was also accepted to top EU programs (IMD, LBS).
I'm 32 and will be 33 at start of the programs.

The "funny" thing is that I almost decided not to apply to US pgms because of the general belief that they won't accept older applicants. This would have been a big mistake.

If you have a solid profile and a strong story to tell, then put your best effort in your application and go for it. You'll have to explain your motivations clearly and this should go smoothly.

Best of luck.

Tohin

Thanks Tohin, any luck with scholarships. That's again another reason why I am currently restricting myself to European schools. They are way too expensive.

Awesome! Congrats.. Can you explain a bit more about your profile? I am sure that anything you say will help other applicants.

What were you doing before and how much scholarship you managed. Which school have you finally chosen to attend?

Thanks for your message.
I will certainly post a full debrief of my MBA journey. I need to take care of administrative stuff right now, but should be able to dedicate some time to writing my "story" within a couple of weeks.

Good luck to everyone.
