Dear Pramod,

Having a GMAT score below a school's average GMAT always puts you in a bit of a precarious position. Additionally, having a background that is over-represented in the global MBA applicant pool makes your task of distinguishing yourself more challenging and critical to reach a positive admissions decision. As such, I do think you should consider retaking the GMAT to improve your score to put yourself in a better competitive position for your target schools, as well as any other MBA program. For applicants that appear similar to you in terms of education, experience and extracurriculars, the GPA and GMAT average tend to be much higher. You can't change your grades, but you can do better on the GMAT.

If you do not feel you can achieve a better score, or want to explore options where your current profile is more competitive, I would suggest looking at programs with GMAT averages under a 630. Regardless of where you apply, your essays, recommendations and interviews are all integral to your admissions decisions and are components you can use to make your case for a seat in the class.

Good luck,
Lisa
