TV viewers

Many TV viewers own devices that can be set up to record shows automatically so that viewers can watch them later. Companies that advertise on television complain that the use of these devices hurts their business since the product makes it possible to watch television programs while selectively editing out commercials.

Which of the following, if true, would most strengthen the companies' argument that the use of these TV recording devices is hurting their business?

A. The methods for determining audience size, which in turn determines charges for advertising time, count households that are merely recording a program as well as households that are watching it.

B. TV recording device manufacturers who advertise on television would themselves suffer the damage, if any, to advertisers' interests that is caused by their product.

C. There are recording devices available that can selectively include advertisements.

D. The use of these devices increases TV's popularity as an entertainment medium.

E. Some television commercials are as entertaining or informative as the programs they interrupt.

imo a

If the price that advertisers pay is based on the number of TV viewers, and if the number of TV viewers that advertisers pay for includes those who have the recorder, than it's obviously hurting their business because the money is being spent on a segment that is totally not productive!
