Que: A juice machine has 500 liters of watermelon pulp in stock, 20 percent of which is water. If another 200 liters of watermelon pulp of which 20 percent is water, is added to the machine what percent, by volume, of the machine’s watermelon pulp contains water?

(A) 10%

(D) 30%

Solution: The resultant percentage will be the weighted average of the percentages of the above two stocks.

=> \(\frac{500\cdot\frac{20}{100}+200\cdot\frac{20}{100}}{500+200}\cdot100\)

=> \(\frac{100+40}{700}\cdot100\)

=> \(\frac{140}{700}\cdot100\)=> 20%

Therefore, B is the correct answer.
