Yes / No DS Question

by dwdionis » Sat Jul 18, 2009 1:32 am
Hey all,

So I'm wondering what is the "right" answer, with a YES or NO Data Sufficiency question, if say the question is:

Is X = 5?

Now say statement (1) = "always yes"

OK great, so it's A or D now.

But, statement (2) = "always no"

--

Does this mean D, each statement is sufficient? Though (1) says X is NOT 5, (2) says X is 5.

dwdionis,
on GMAT you will never get statements like those. on GMAT statements never contradict each other. there must be at least one value where both statements are correct.
for ex statements can be

(1) = "always yes"

(2)X=5, when Y=2
now you chose A
The powers of two are bloody impolite!!
