A certain car increased its average speed by 5 miles per hour in each successive 5-minute interval after the first interval. If in the first 5-minute interval its average speed was 20 miles per hour, how many miles did the car travel in the third 5-minute interval?

A) 1.0
B) 1.5
C) 2.0
D) 2.5
E) 3.0

The OA is D.

Please, can any expert explain this PS question for me? I tried to solve it but I can't get the correct answer. I need your help. Thanks.

A car increases its speed by 5 mph every 5 minute interval after the first. If the first interval is 20 mph, the second interval will be 25, and the third interval will be 30 mph. How far did it travel in 5 minutes at 30 mph? Since 5 minutes is 1/12 of an hour, the car will have traveled 30/12 = 15/6 = 5/2 or 2.5 miles.

IN THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES SPEED IS 20MPH, IN THE SECOND 5 MINUTES IT WOULD BE 25MPH AND IN THE THIRD 5MINUTES IT WOULD BE 30MPH , which is half mile per minute. so in 5 mites it will travel 5x0.5=2.5miles

The rate of the car in the first interval was 20 mph, in the second it was 25 mph, and in the third it was 30 mph.

Since 5 minutes = 5/60 = 1/12 hour, the distance traveled in the third interval was 30 x 1/12 = 30/12 = 5/2 = 2.5 miles.
