Let the present age of Murray be m.
Now, in 12 years, Murray's age will be m+12

Now, according to the question, m+12 = 4m
So, m = 4

Now, required no of years = 8 times of present Murray's age - Murray's present age
= 8* 4 -4
= 32-4 =28.

Let x = Murray's PRESENT age

In 12 years, Murray will be 4 times as old as he is now
In 12 years, Murray's age = x + 12
So we can write: x + 12 = 4x
Solve to get: x = 4
So Murray is presently 4 years old

The number of years until Murray is 8 times as old as he is now?
(8)(4) = 32
So the question is really asking us,"How many years will it take until Murray is 32 years old?"

32 - 4 = 28

Answer: C

Solution:

If we let Murray’s current age = M, we can create the equations:

M + 12 = 4M

12 = 3M

4 = M

Murray is 4 years old now.

So, we can create the equation:

(4 + K) = 8(4)

4 + K = 32

K = 28
