What was the amount of money awarded to the recipient

What was the amount of money awarded to the recipient of a research grant?

(1) Of the amount awarded, 50 percent was given to the recipient immediately.
(2) Of the amount awarded, $75,000 was to be given to the recipient upon completion of research.

Why are insufficient the statements? Could any expert clarify this for me? I'd be thankful.

This question is asking us for a total VALUE of money awarded.

(1) Of the amount awarded, 50 percent was given to the recipient immediately.
This just gives a proportion, but no actual value. Insufficient.

(2) Of the amount awarded, $75,000 was to be given to the recipient upon completion of research.
This gives a partial value, but not a total. Insufficient.

(1) & (2) together:
Are the only 2 times the recipient received money 1) immediately and 2) on completion? If so, the $75k would = 50% of the total.

If the recipient received money another time (halfway through the research, etc), then $75k would represent less than 50% of the total.

Insufficient. The answer is E.
