We can use the slope formula:

[(k - (-4)]/(3 - (-1)) = k

(k + 4)/4 = k

k + 4 = 4k

4 = 3k

4/3 = k

Answer: C

Slope of line between the points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
So, we can write: k = [k - (-4)]/[3 - (-1)]
Simplify: (k + 4)/4 = k
Multiply both sides by 4 to get: k + 4 = 4k
Subtract k from both sides to get: 4 = 3k
Divide both sides by 3 to get: 4/3 = k

Answer: C
