X is an Integer

If x is an integer, is √(3x-y) = √(2x-2y)

(1) x - y = 2
(2) x + y = 4

OA : D
Source : Bell curves

I believe the answer should be B, cause we can reduce the prompt down to "is x = -y"
Now for statement 1
case a : x = 3 & y = 1 (Ans : NO)
case b : x=1 & y = -1 (Ans : Yes)
--> Insufficient

Experts could you please help me out here?

Hi manik11,

This is a poorly-designed question; it includes the possibility of imaginary numbers (which is a subject that is NOT tested on the GMAT). As such, I would ignore this question.
