If it took Carol 1/2 hour to cycle from his house to the library yesterday, was the distance that he cycled greater than 6 miles? ( 1mile=5,280feet)
1). The average speed at which Carlos cycled from his house to the library yesterday was greater than 16 feet per second.
2). The average speed at which Carlos cycled from his house to the library yesterday was less than 18 feet per second

pls solve. tx. for some reason, I am getting C OA -E

When the question states less than 18 feet, do we need to consider 17.5, 17.9 too?

This is how I got the answer.

I did (1) first by converting the equation to ft/hr. I ended up getting 59600 ft per hour. I divided by two and got 29800 ft.

Six miles is 31,680 feet.

When I looked at (2) and saw that it is less than 18 ft per sec, I wrote that off, just like you did.

When I looked at both of them, I knew that the answer could be 16.1 ft per sec or 17.9 ft per sec, it is still insufficient. That's how I got answer E.

IMO E.

S1—We are told that speed is > 16feet/sec

If the speed is 16 feet/sec , Distance = 16/5280*1/2*60*60=5.45 miles
So we know that D >5.45 but we can say whether it was > 6—So insufficient

S2-Average speed <18 feet/sec
So if the speed is 18feet/sec then D = 18/5280*1/2*60*60=6.136 miles
D< 6.136 miles – Insufficient

Combine we know the distance is 5.45<D<6.136 – Insufficient
