Given: x and y are integers and x < y.
We have to find out the value of x + y.
Let's take each statement one by one.
(1) x^y = 4
Since x < y, we cannot have scerios such as 4^1 = 4 and 2^2 = 4. The only scenerio possible is (-2)^2 = 4; thus, x = y = -2 + 2 = 0. Sufficient.
(2) |x| = |y|
With the same reasoning stated in Statement 1, we cannot have a scenario 2^2 = 4. The only scenerio possible is (-2)^2 = 4; thus, x = y = -2 + 2 = 0. Sufficient.
The correct answer:
D
Hope this helps!
