range

Professor Vasquez gave a quiz to two classes. Was the range of scores fro the first class equal to the range of scores for the second class?
(1) In each class, the number of students taking the quiz was 26, and the lowest score in each class was 70.
(2) IN each class, the average (arithmetic mean) score on the quiz was 85

I think the answer is E. my explanation:
Statement 1:
In each class, the number of students taking the quiz was 26, and the lowest score in each class was 70.

no information can be inferred regarding the highest score. Hence insufficient.

Statement 2:
IN each class, the average (arithmetic mean) score on the quiz was 85

insufficient because it does not say anything about the highest or lowest marks or the number of students in each class.

Combining, we see that the lowest score is the same and the mean is the same. But this does not mean that the highest score is also the same. hence insufficient.

Hence, my answer is E.

OA E

I would've picked E as well. The answer would be C if there was a way to derive the highest score.
