Hi AbeNeedsAnswers,

We're asked for the value of W+Q. This DS question is based on a pattern that you are likely to see once on Test Day (hiding the answer to the question in some 'math steps'). There also appears to be a small 'typo' in Fact 2.

1) 3W = 3 - 3Q

We can rewrite this equation....
3W = 3 - 3Q
3W + 3Q = 3
W + Q = 1 ... so we have the answer to the question.
Fact 1 is SUFFICIENT

2) 5W + 5Q = 5

We can simplify this equation in much the same way that we simplified Fact 1:
5W + 5Q = 5
W + Q = 1 ... so we have the answer to the question.
Fact 2 is SUFFICIENT

Final Answer: D

(1) 3w = 3 - 3q
(2) 5w = 5q = 5

D
We need to determine the sum of w and q.

Statement One Alone:

3w = 3 - 3q

Dividing the entire equation by 3 we have:

w = 1 - q

w + q = 1

Statement one alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Statement Two Alone:

5w + 5q = 5

Dividing the equation by 5 we have:

w + q = 1

Statement two alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Answer: D
