(1) In City X last April, the sum of the 30 daily high temperatures was 2,160°.

So, this is a question on comparison of average and median.

Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) In City X last April, the sum of the 30 daily high temperatures was 2,160°.

This information can only get us average; however, we do not know the value of the median. Insufficient.

(2) In City X last April, 60 percent of the daily high temperatures were less than the average daily high temperature.

We know that the median is the value of the 50% term; since 60 % of the daily high temperatures were less than the average daily high temperature, it is clear that the value of 50% term (temperature) must be less than the average daily high temperature. Sufficient.

The correct answer: B
