Let temperature at noon = n
Let temperature at midnight = m
Given that n = m + 25% of m


Target question => What is the temperature of the place at midnight?
i.e find the value of m?


Statement 1 => The temperature of the place at midnight is 20% lower than the temperature of the same place at noon
m = n - 20% of n
m = n - 0.2n
m = 0.8n


From question stem n = m + 0.25m
n = 1.25m
m = 0.8 * 1.25 m
m = 1m, exact value of m remains unknown and target question cannot be evaluated. Statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT


Statement 2 => The temperature of the place at noon is 10 units greater than the temperature of the place at midnight
n = m + 10; from question stem n = m + 0.25m
n = 1.25m
Therefore, 1.25m = m + 10
1.25m - m = 10
0.25m/0.25m = 10/0.25
10/0.25 m = 40
Statement 2 alone is SUFFICIENT


Answer = B
