For this PS we will be applying substitution method.

5p - 3q = 42
So, 5p = 42 + 3q

Substituting the value of 5P in the 2nd equation

5p + 3q = 18
So, 42 + 3q + 3q = 18
So, q = -4

Substituting the value of q in the 2nd equation
5p + 3q = 18
So, 5p + 3(-4) = 18
So, p=6

now,
|p| + |q|
= |6| + |-4|
= 6 + 4
=10

The correct answer is E
