In the figure above, points A, B, C, D, and E are evenly spaced along the number line. If E = 9^13 and C = 9^11, what is the distance from point A to point D?
A. 9^3
B. 9^9
C. (120)(9^9)
D. 9^11
E. (120)(9^11)
There are 3 spaces between A and D.
There are 2 spaces between C and E.
Thus:
AD/CE = 3/2
AD = (3/2)(CE).
CE = 9¹³ - 9¹¹ = (9¹¹)(9² - 1) = (9¹¹)(80).
Thus:
AD = (3/2)(CE) = (3/2)(9¹¹)(80) = (120)(9¹¹).
The correct answer is
E.
