Eight friends met for lunch at an expensive restaurant, and everyone decided to contribute equally to the total bill of $480. If one of the friends had a coupon for 25% off the total bill, and if each friend still contributed equally after the coupon was applied to the bill, how much did each friend pay?

A. $90
B. $70
C. $45
D. $37
E. $35

Original cost per person = (total bill)/(number of people) = 480/8 = 60.
Since the total cost is discounted by 25%, the cost per person is also discounted by 25%:
60 - (25/100)(60) = 60 - (1/4)(60) = 60 - 15 = 45.

The correct answer is C.

Let's take a look at your question.

Total bill of the restaurant = $480
discount coupon = 25% off
The discount on the total bill can be calculated as:
$$Discount\ =\ 480\ \times25\%$$
$$Discount\ =\ 480\ \times\frac{25}{100}=120$$

$$\text{Remaining amount they have to pay}=480-120=360$$

Since 8 friends are equally contributing to the bill, so we can find the bill each friend will pay as:
$$\text{Each friend will pay}\ =\frac{360}{8}=45$$

Therefore, option C is correct.

After the coupon is applied, the bill is 480 x 0.75 = 360

So each friend will have to pay 360/8 = 45 dollars.

Answer: C
