I think IELTS is accepted by most US universities, although it is more popular in Europe than the US. But here's a thought: IELTS is more difficult than TOEFL! Maybe you should take the easier test and concentrate on other aspects of your application?

I heard TOEFL is a lot more tougher than IELTS and I know personal examples. My own sister performed better on IELTS than in TOEFL.

Go for computer based TOEFL it is much easier than IELTS, and more universities in US accept it.

yes IElTS is very necassary now days because USA , UK and Australian universities are accepting the IELTS and most of the universities demands from the students that they should do IELTS before taking the Admission so you should do IELTS before applying for the admission in any university of USA .

Difference between IELTS and TOEFL:

* TOEFL is conducted by ETS, a non profit organization in US, IELTS is jointly managed by the British Council, University of Cambridge and IELTS Australia.
* While IELTS scores are valid in US also, Universities in US and Canada prefer TOEFL over IELTS.
* One of the biggest differences between IELTS and TOEFL is that while IELTS assesses proficiency in British English, TOEFL measures proficiency in US English.
* Though both assess abilities in reading, writing, speaking and listening, formats of the two tests are quite different.
* TOEFL has more multiple choice questions while in IELTS candidates have to copy words after listening to a conversation.

I think IELTS is more valuable then TOEFL for MBA in US.
