Vocabulary

Vocabulary is not my pride. Any tips, anyone? I mean, I read nytime, but as interesting as it is, I don't gain much vocabulary from it. Say I knew extravaganza, and not avaricious: but was too absorbed in the article to look it up in the dictionary. It's quite discouraging.
Any suggestion?

Don't worry too much about it. The TOEFL doesn't really rely on your vocabulary too much - for sure much easier than the GRE. The fact that you're reading stuff is great!

Tips for improve the vocabulary:

* Try to read English more to more
* Improve your context skills.
* Learning a new word is easy but retaining it takes practice.
* Make up as many associations and connections as possible.
* As you read, look up words that you do not know.
* Playing word games
* Taking vocabulary tests will help in judging your vocabulary.

Don't worry, because there is very little concern of vocabulary in TOEFL. Though to remember it, always try to relate or make up connections of words with your real life situations.
