I have a strange question from a formal source

//machines replacing human labor, there was wide anticipation that// the workweek would continue to become shorter

a,

b,when machines replaced human labor, there was wide anticipation

c,as machines replaced human labor,it was widely anticipated that

I have one doubt AS is used to compare to actions here AS is compared with machines and human labor which is incorrect
Please correct me if I am wrong

My choice is B

Yes,You are correct.Here,use of 'when' is most suitable to denote the time when the particular action took place(action of 'machines replacing human labor')

My Pick is C. the option B appears incomplete to me.
widely anticipated that introduces the clause the workweek would continue to become shorter..i feel that is necessary here.

I would go with C

meaning of the sentence:

Replacement of human labor by machines and the presence of anticipation were parallel events. I think C puts this precisely.

c,as machines replaced human labor,it was widely anticipated that[Correct IT is followed by THAT ]

d,insofar as machines replaced human labor,it was widely anticipated[The IT used here dose not have an antecedent but acts as a place holder and must be followed by TO or THAT .Eliminate ]

e,human labor being replaced by machines, there was wide anticipation that[the pronoun THERE should refer to a place and this sentence fails to give an antecedent for THERE.Eliminate ]

I'd go for C also, fellas!! AS doens't necessarily need to be used for comparison. There is a necessity for a subornator (THAT)
The question is not comparing IMO.

well put :) 'AS' is used as a conjunction here - AS, when used as a conjunction, introduces a clause (mentioned in OG12) - It is the case in option C
