The answer is C as the only C indicates that Quetzalcoatlus is believed to be the largest creature. all other options indicate the wingspan as the creature

well
Quetzalcoatlus had a wingspan of 36 feet, it is believed to have been the largest flying creature the world has ever seen.

Well pronuon it used there in ambigious i guess...what does "it" refers to that animal or wings...
from the flow of the sentence ,in above sentence i think it is referring to wingspan (which is not correct)

plus is "have been" really necessary there?
i dont think so...

But i also could not come up with single answer.

What's problem in A?

A huge flying reptile that died out with the dinosaurs some 65 million years ago, the Quetzalcoatlus had a wingspan of 36 feet, believed to be the largest flying creature the world has ever seen.
(A) believed to be -> modifying to 36 feet, Wrong
(B) and that is believed to be
(C) and it is believed to have been -> seems to be better
(D) which was, it is believed, -> modifying to 36 feet, Wrong
(E) which is believed to be -> modifying to 36 feet, Wrong

well if we take C
Quetzalcoatlus had a wingspan of 36 feet and it is believed to have been
it can easily mean wingspan is believed to have been....
or there is problem with this as well
"it" can refer to any one

plus it uses have been....

so,there is problem with A as well, but i feel it is better than C

Looking at :

"the largest flying creature the world has ever seen.", this seems to imply that even till this day, its the largest flying creature(ever would mean it carries to this day). In option 'C' i.e. "and it is believed to have been ", implies that the belief that this creature was the largest flying creature was valid only uptil a certain point in time. To summarize, taking the complete sentence with option C,

"A huge flying reptile that died out with the dinosaurs some 65 million years ago, the Quetzalcoatlus had a wingspan of 36 feet, and it is believed to have been the largest flying creature the world has ever seen. "

It seems to me that tenses are out of place. For option C to be correct, "the world has ever seen" should have been "the world had ever seen".

Thanks,
Manu
