I would choose C

A- inproper comparison. The author would need to say "the life of Chekhov belongs..."

B- This changes the meaning of the sentence

C- Correct

D- the meaning of this is ambiguious

E- I don't believe that the life of Chekhov can be compared with the lives of other biographies.

A - Compares the lives of ... to Chekhov (illogical)
B - Claims Chekhov belong to the twentieth century (illogical)
D - Compares Chekhov's life to biographies (illogical)
E - Compares Chekhov;s life to biographies (illogical)

Only C makes the correct comparison

Tough one. What is the OA and explanation?

My problem with C is the fact that instead of " Troyat biographies, Pushkin, Gogol, Tolstoi, and Dostoevski, belongs "
I think there should be " Troyat biographies : Pushkin, Gogol, Tolstoi, and Dostoevski, belongs "
I am stuck between C and E

I agree with VikingWarrior that we need a COLON here to complete the list but still I wud chose C.

(E) The life of Chekhov, unlike that of other Troyat biographies of Pushkin, Gogol, Tolstoi, and Dostoevski, belongs

E is incorrect as it compares the life of Chekov with the life of other Troyat biographies

Give preference to Wrong/Illogical Comparison over COLON usage.

(D) ... Chekov and his life - belong to the 20th century ... WRONG ... It's only Chekov's life that belongs, not both of them ... Moreover, comparing Chekov and life with biographies ...

(E) ... The life of Chekhov, unlike that of other biographies ... WRONG ... Comparing Chekov's life to the life of other biographies ...

Is it comparable?

Is not "Chekhov" a name of a person?
