their pronoun reference

The attorney argued that students who were denied the use of school facilities for political activities had lost their right of free assembly.

'their' in the above sentence is a possessive case. and their can refer to school facilities and political activities.

This question is more about logic than any rule. How can school facilities loose right of free assembly?
