Houses that are located near the beach tend to rise in value, because they often have excellent views of the ocean. However, they may not be a good investment, because they are also particularly susceptible to natural disasters.

Which of the following displays reasoning parallel to that in the statements above?

A
Boxing is a sport that can cause irreparable damage to the body and brain. Doctors have recently discovered that boxers often sustain damage to the brain stem and spinal cord after a full career, which can cause more dire consequences than damage to the cerebellum.
B
Medieval knights were known for their chivalrous behavior, which included a code of conduct regarding how the knights treated women. In the modern sense, "chivalry" has a somewhat different definition, although it retains its ancient connotations of politeness, honor and responsibility.
C
As beach volleyball has become a more popular sport in recent years, the number of beach volleyball players has increased significantly. However, companies that manufacture volleyballs have not increased their profits as much as they expected, because new players tend to play large games with one ball, rather than many smaller games, each of which would require its own ball.
D
Buying concert tickets from unauthorized websites is a good way to get cheap tickets, because sellers need not pay a middleman when reselling tickets. Those using unauthorized sites should note, though, that using such sites places one at a far greater risk of identity theft.
E
People who live near the sites of nuclear waste dumps are considered to be at a somewhat higher risk of certain medical conditions. However, actuaries are hesitant to take these risks into account when deciding on the premiums that people must pay, because the risks are unproven.

It made me ponder over E and C.

C: more popular - should result in more demand for balls; however is not the case
E: the risks exist but have not been proven - similar case to that of stimulus - CORRECT

On a revision, I'd have to go with D.

I was shuffling between D and E...Now that E isnt the OA which I think is because of the completely opposite but similar analogies, I am all but sure it should be D which compares similar things!

i see two arguments in this ... one for and one against...
first... which is for the beach houses
House value inc, because ocean view...
second.. counter to the beach houses..
not good investment, because natural disaster..

i see only C following the similar pattern, but the only problem in that is that it changes the subject in the second counter argument..

D follows the same pattern..
one for argument for some reason... and one counter argument for another reason...

Pick D

The question stem first states the advantages of X(something) and then states the downside of X.
Advantage- Increase in value
Disadvantage or downside: Has greater risk because of natural disaster

In the answer choices only option D is parallel to this reasoning.

Advantage: Tickets at cheaper rates.
Downside or disadvantage: Identity theft

Hence option D is the BEST option.
Gmat always asks for the BEST choice and NOT for the CORRECT option.

Option A.

Statement1: Boxng causes injuries.
Statement 2: Doctors have recently discovered that boxers often sustain damage to the brain stem and spinal cord after a full career, which can cause more dire consequences than damage to the cerebellum.

Here statement 2 strengthens the statement 1. -------> Wrong

Option B
Statement 1: Medieval knights were known for their chivalrous behavior

Statement 2: In the modern sense, "chivalry" has a somewhat different definition, although it retains its ancient connotations of politeness, honor and responsibility.

I dont even see a clear pattern here......Rejected

Option C

Statement 1: As beach volleyball has become a more popular sport in recent years, the number of beach volleyball players has increased significantly

Statement 2: However, companies that manufacture volleyballs have not increased their profits as much as they expected,

This is a classic example of "Resolving the paradox".

Statement 2 is a paradox to statement 1

Which is resolved by the statement
"new players tend to play large games with one ball, rather than many smaller games, each of which would require its own ball.

hence Rejected

Option E: Same as option C.

Hence rejected.

Therefore Option seems to be the best option.

I again insist, BEST.

I discount C because the volleyball makers have reaped at least some profit if not much , because the choice says the new volleyball players purchased atleast 1 ball for the big games.
D)Both the Pros and cons are absolute.
Pro:Cheap tickets
Con:Id Theft
So I think D is the OA.
Please continue to post the quests with OA
