Beaten : 600

by Croyant » Thu Apr 30, 2009 12:59 am
Hi Guys,

Today was my G-Day.I always knew that verbal is my weaker section (english is not my mother tongue) and only a miracle can help me touch my target GMAT score of 700. I was very consistent in quants with 49-51 and got a 49 today. I was getting 21-31 in verbal during practice and my overall range in practice tests was 610-660 but it all went wrong today and I got a dismal 24 in verbal .

Final scores:
Quants : 49
Verbal : 24
Overall : 600

Can somebody please give me some tips to improve my verbal score. My problem is that even though I scored 650-660 in some of the practice tests I was never confident of the answers unlike in quants where I can get a 49 anyday.

Also , today the verbal questions were tougher than the usual (comparing with GMATprep) and in fact they never got easier making me think that I am doing well. I can't forget that horrible RC around (Q23 -26) which made me feel that I have done well in first 20 questions i.e the initial questions. But the end result was disappointing.

I am going to write it again. Very soon.Probably in two months. Please advise.

Thanks

Verbal tips:

Improve speed and comprehension by reading 20 min every day (NYTimes or The Economist on line, the latter has most parts free)

MEmorize SC Manh, when you have mistakes check with that book.

SC After grammar concepts are learned, focus on Meaning. Who does what?

Create an error log and keep track of improvement. USe OG including Verbal Review.

CR & RC analyze the answers (see Logitech advice)

All the best and never give up!
